ACS Hillingdon
On a beautifully sunny day our Educatus consultants visited the ACS Hillingdon campus in West London. The school enjoys easy access to central London while offering a calmer, more spacious environment away from the intensity of the city. We came away hugely impressed by a school that balances structure, community, and opportunity in equal measure.
A striking campus with history
Upon arrival we were immediately taken by how breath taking the gorgeous main school building was, standing proudly on 11 acres of campus, a stunning Grade II listed mansion originally built in 1858 as the family home of the Mills family. The mansion house has formed part of the ACS International School Hillingdon since 1978.
We highly recommend viewing the drone footage below to appreciate the scale and beauty of the site.
Accessibility and a truly international community
An impressively well-oiled operation of approximately 50 school buses brings students to campus each day. This bus network not only eases the typical school-run congestion but also makes the school highly accessible for relocating and international families who may not yet be familiar with London’s transport system.
With over 500 students and a diverse community of approximately 50-60 nationalities, many families are new to the UK. The bus system plays an important role in helping students settle quickly and access the school with confidence from day one.

Another important aspect of provision for international families at ACS Hillingdon is its EAL (English as an Additional Language) support. Students are assessed on entry and provided with tailored support to help them access the curriculum confidently, both academically and socially. This may include in-class assistance, targeted small group support and ongoing monitoring of progress, ensuring that students are fully included in school life while developing their English language skills in a structured and supportive way.
Values and community culture
A clear and consistent thread throughout ACS Hillingdon is its values-led approach to education, which underpins both learning and daily school life. The school is guided by five core values: Imagine Better, Welcome Everyone, Aim High and Make It Happen, Work Together, and Act with Kindness. Together, these principles shape a culture that encourages creativity, ambition, and collaboration, while also placing strong emphasis on inclusion and wellbeing.
We also noted the wide range of events for parents organised by the PSO (Parent School Organisation), which takes immense pride in creating and running a variety of memorable community activities. During our tour, it was highlighted how proactive the parent community is in bringing families together, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for new international families.
At Educatus, we recognise how valuable this is for families arriving in a new country for the first time, particularly for spouses supporting a partner’s work relocation. It provides an immediate sense of connection, belonging and practical support within the school community, helping new families settle more quickly and feel at home.
In addition to this, we noted the school’s highly supportive onboarding process for new students, with a counsellor working individually with each child to help ensure a smooth transition into their new school, and in some cases, a new country. This same level of care is also provided when students are preparing to leave if relocating again, ensuring continuity of support throughout their journey. Relocation can be emotionally disruptive for children, and the school places clear emphasis on making this process as settled and supported as possible for every student.
A campus designed for identity, independence and belonging.
ACS Hillingdon is an all-through school (ages 3 to 18), with the campus thoughtfully divided into Early Childhood, Lower School, and Upper School - each with their own dedicated spaces. These boundaries are carefully designed to support wellbeing and age-appropriate independence. Small class sizes allow for a more personalised approach to learning, with teachers able to build strong relationships with students and tailor support where needed.
Despite being divided up across the buildings, the school maintains a powerful sense of togetherness. Shared spaces such as the canteen bring students together throughout the day, with meals served at staggered times. The canteen also reflects the school’s global identity, offering themed international cuisine with a different country highlighted each month, allowing for students to have a taste from home or try something new.
The school also holds whole-school events to encourage community. One such impressive event held in recent years by the school “A Night at the West End” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra born from a first-of-its kind partnership between the ACS International schools and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This collaboration creates exceptional opportunities for students to engage with music at a professional level. We were told that it has led to some truly memorable moments, including students having the opportunity to compose their own pieces and having them performed live by the orchestra.
Academic pathways and future focus
Academically, ACS Hillingdon offers strong and flexible pathways, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the IB Careers-related Programme (IBCP), Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and High School classes. This breadth allows students to shape a pathway that reflects their individual strengths, interests, and future ambitions, while developing the skills needed to succeed beyond school. There is a clear focus on preparing students for the future not just academically, but as well-rounded individuals ready to navigate whatever comes next for them with confidence. Many students progress to UK universities, with others moving on to institutions in the US and internationally. A dedicated university counselling team supports these transitions, with 90% of students receiving offers from their first-choice university.
Another standout partnership of the school is with Pinewood Studios, providing students with real world internship opportunities in creative industries such as makeup, prosthetics, and film production. The school truly puts emphasis on real world learning, mixing academics with real industry experience.
Outstanding facilities and elite sporting pathways
The school offers impressive sporting facilities, including a newly installed climbing wall that has quickly become extremely popular. This addition is helping the school expand its sporting offer and introduce competitive climbing into its programme.
Sport is structured through a clear development pathway, where students are introduced to new sports in curriculum lessons before progressing into extracurricular clubs and competitive teams. ACS Hillingdon also positions itself as an elite performance pathway school, supporting students with high sporting ambition.
The school’s competitive teams, known as the Hillingdon Hawks, compete with schools across the country, building strong links and a sense of pride in representation. They also hold friendly competitions against their fellow ACS school teams, with Cobham known as the Cougars, Egham as the Jaguars, and Hillingdon as the Hawks.
Beyond sport, students benefit from a wide range of clubs and activities including performing arts, science, leadership opportunities allowing them to thrive and explore their interests no matter what they may be.
A strong wellbeing and inclusion culture
Pastoral care and inclusion are clearly prioritised. The SEND team demonstrated a strong openness to working closely with families and external professionals, ensuring that each child’s needs are fully understood and supported.
A calm and welcoming wellbeing space on campus provides students with a quiet environment for reflection and support, reinforcing the school’s commitment to emotional wellbeing and care.
