Tasis England

TASIS England in Surrey left a wonderful impression on the Educatus Explorer during a recent visit. This award-winning, co-educational international school welcomes students aged 3 to 18, with boarding available from age 13.

Situated near the village of Thorpe, TASIS England boasts a stunning 46-acre campus featuring manicured flower beds, courtyards, green spaces, a wooded play area for younger children, and even their own small lake! The campus is divided into north and south sections by a quiet road. The school has undergone a lot of expansion in the past 15 years, but new additions have been thoughtfully designed to maintain the peaceful English countryside aesthetic. Nine boarding houses are spread across the campus, each hosting a mix of nationalities, reflecting the school’s diverse student body of over 70 nationalities.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and we were warmly greeted by staff and students alike, including some very hospitable senior prefects. The campus feels a lot like its own village, a testament to its commitment to community (it hosts lots of parent social events). Many of the staff are long-standing, including the Head, Bryan Nixon, who has been in post since 2017 and sets the tone with his enthusiasm and open-mindedness.

The academic offering is equally impressive. In the lower and middle years, the school offers an American-based curriculum, while Upper School students can choose between the American High School Diploma (with over 20 Advanced Placement courses available) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The school prides itself on tailoring academic pathways to each student’s needs, with the flexibility to combine IB and AP courses. Core subjects like maths, science, and languages – including EAL support – are set by ability rather than year group, ensuring a truly personalized learning experience. TASIS England graduates regularly gain places at both British and international universities, supported by a dedicated college counselling team from Grade 9 onwards.

Sports are a key part of life at TASIS England, and the school ensures that “everyone gets on a team.” with their “no drop” policy. Facilities include tennis courts, football pitches, an impressive gym, and a basketball court complete with bleachers for that authentic American feel. For activities like swimming and track, the school makes use of external venues.

Other standout features include a wooded play area for younger students, an art gallery, well-stocked libraries, a theatre, a cafeteria, and a fully equipped fitness center.

The Educatus Explorer finds that TASIS England caters exceptionally well to both day students and boarders, creating a diverse, vibrant community on a picturesque campus.

Rosa Ross

Rosa is one of our Senior Education Researchers. She joined Educatus in 2017 and has worked on the research for hundreds of our families. She is very experienced at supporting our consultants and the families they are working with, whether they be looking for state, private, international, boarding or childcare.

Before joining Educatus, Rosa completed her BA at University of Sussex and Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Brighton. She has worked as a nanny and Teaching Assistant in state schools, as well as many years in customer service.

Her favourite part of the role is when a family secures a state school place.  She knows that it can be such an anxious time for relocating families and it’s really rewarding to be able to witness the relief when that offer does come through and to know she was part of making this happen.
